Tonight before the worship service started, Luisa (age 9) came in and sat down next to me. I sensed something was wrong, so I asked her about it. She asked me if we could talk after the service, but I could see that it was very serious. So we went into another room and sat on the floor together. This is what she said to me with tears streaming down both cheeks:

...there are SO many people who don't care about Jesus. There are millions of Christians in the world, but there are just so many who don't care about Him. And I'm just one girl. I don't know what I can do about it. But it makes me so sad.

I hugged her for a long time. And then as I stood next to her during worship, I just begged God to give me a heart like Luisa's. In the kids' service, I told the story of David and Goliath, specifically emphasizing that God desires to use us, the most unlikely people.

Later on, I found Luisa telling Savanna about her pain for all of the people who don't know Jesus. I talked to them both for a while, and then I prayed that God would use the three of us to reach out to those who don't know Jesus. When we opened our eyes, Luisa's face was wet with tears again.

Still later, the girls explained to me that they had chosen a verse (Jeremiah 29:11-13), and they were going to meditate on it and pray about it each day during the week. Did I want to participate?

When I finished preparing the lesson this afternoon, I laid outside in the grass and talked to God about so many of my doubts and fears. I'm so pathetic when it comes to faith sometimes, but I began to have some peace. Then I pleaded with Him to do something real in our children's ministry... and He brought Luisa to me.

For the last few years, kids have been the most amazing teachers in my life. It is obvious to me God has a special relationship with them... and I love being able to have a connection to that. Kids aren't afraid to be passionate, and it is so natural for them to have faith in God. Jesus just makes sense to little people. I'm really confused about what I am supposed to be doing with my life in the future, but it seems right for me to be working with these kids right now.

I was never much of a linguist anyway.
