Ah, what a weekend. It began with a Wizard of Oz theme party at my house. The idea was that people were supposed to come dressed up for the occassion... but my roommates and I are really bad at successfully pulling off these sorts of events. We weren't even in costume when people started arriving. It turned out that this wasn't a problem though, because only four people came. We seem to be the queens of random, awkward theme parties, but this one definitely won the prize. Still, we did watch the movie to Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon album, which was the point of the event. (If you're interested in trying it, pause the cd so the counter is ready at 0:00. Then hit play right after the third roar of the MGM lion before the film begins. Turn down the volume on the movie and listen to the cd as you watch. It's pretty crazy.)
By the way, if anyone happens to read this... we're having another theme party of sorts this Friday night at 9pm. This time its a poetry slam. Anybody is welcome, and you don't even have to dress up. (Although if you want to, that'd be fun too.)
So on Saturday night, I had a slumber party at my house for 12 little girls (ages 4-12). The evening involved another viewing of the Wizard of Oz (this time without Pink Floyd), getting my toe nails painted by a four year old, and lots of hairstyling. It was fun until about midnight. I think at that point, I was ready for them to go to sleep. Or send them home or something. Everyone eventually settled down, and all was well again over bowls of cereal the next morning. I have some really amazing roommates who put up with this sort of thing.
