This has been a really great week. I feel very alive. Awake. Conscious. And so happy. Nothing too interesting or amazing happened. Just the usual stuff.
I worked: cleaning houses, caring for seven children, painting a room. And I discovered that I was finding huge joy in all of it.

I guess I've always thought it was really important to do work that had obvious purpose and meaning. I had to be "making a difference" in some profound and visible way for my efforts to be worthwhile. But the reality is that most of the population isn't given the luxury of choosing a profession that has some grand world-altering purpose. A whole lot of people are just hoping for their daily bread, doing what it takes to make ends meet. I have so much respect for anyone who can do this with grace.

When its possible to do the things you find most meaningful for work, its a good thing. And when its possible to find meaning in whatever you happen to be doing for work, it is really amazing.

"...work is not for profit... work is for giving, not just for gaining. The purpose of my work is to get more human and to make my world more just." Joan Chittister
