Today I was a substitute teacher for music class at one of the local elementary schools. Unfortunately, there were no lesson plans, so I didn't really do much teaching. The classroom was kind of a mess, and I couldn't find much in the way of supplies. Still, I did a couple of improv lessons that could have potentially ended in disaster, but sorta-kinda worked. (What do I know about teaching music?) I ended up falling back on the movies that the art teacher told me to show.
Hint: Don't try to show fifth and sixth graders 'My Fair Lady'. They won't like it. They'll even close their eyes and cover their ears.
Other Hint: Do show first and second graders Mary Poppins. Cause she's magic.

I adore first graders. They were my favorite group today. I had so much fun watching them watch the movie. I loved that they would sit there and whisper things like, "I'm Mary Poppins. Who are you?" And her friend would say, "I'm the girl on the pink horse." Then later, "You can't be Mary Poppins!! You're a boy!!" One girl counted three boys who wanted to be Mary Poppins. But really, can you blame them? The girl does some pretty amazing stuff.
