I haven't been in the mood for blogging lately. I much prefer real-life conversation, but as hard as I try, I can't seem to keep up-to-date with everybody. Here is some of what has been going on...
I still don't really have a very consistent job, but I have been substitute teaching more lately. As a general rule, I wake up with at least a little bit of dread as I head into an unknown and potentially chaotic classroom situation. Subbing is simply not my ideal job, but it seems to be the provision of my daily bread... at least for now.
It actually hasn't been to bad the last few times I've subbed. Recently, I have had lesson plans to teach from, and this makes all the difference! Kids are funny anyway. They kill me. Today a kid came up to me and told me I look like the girl in Anger Management. He must have been thinking about it a lot, because later on, he asked if he could bring in the dvd tomorrow so I could borrow it. (Who is in that movie anyway?) The best part about my job with second grade today was that we finished off the afternoon by watching Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. I doubt the kids appreciated it as much as I did.
In other news, I had an interview with Cincinnati Public Schools last week. It was just a general interview with the district that is necessary before I can interview for any specific teaching positions for the fall. It went really well. So now I can be expecting calls from principals anytime between now... and August. There is also the issue of my teaching certificate expiring this June. (How did four years pass already?!?) I'm in the process of figuring out a way to take the 6 credit hours of coursework that I need to renew it. Everything is kind of up in the air right now, but I'm going to pursue the possibility of teaching here in the fall and see what happens.
Keep me in your prayers as I try to find the way.
