So Matthias leaves us tomorrow. It just won't be the same without him here... Now I will look across the hall into an empty room.

Today he and I got smoothies and went to Ault Park to reminisce about his five month stay here at the convent. In the course of our conversation, Matthias mentioned that there will be several things that he will remember about me.

The first three things that came to his mind were:
1. The way I eat a banana. (Pull off one strip of the peel and then scoop out each bite with a spoon...)
2. My subconscious habit of pushing my dishes as far away from me as possible immediately after I have taken my last bite.
3. The look of pain and suffering on my face each morning at 6am.

Its good to know that I have made a lasting impression on this German of ours. Sigh... We will miss him. Along with all of his obvious kindnesses, I will particularly miss the distinct and thunderous way that he stumble-crash-thuds down the stairs with each descent.
