In my first grade class, we have been learning about our community. I've been reading lots of books to the kids, we played "community helper" charades, and we walked to the local library for a field trip.

I asked the kids a few riddles to see what they knew about people who work in our community. For example:
I wear heavy protective clothing. I drive a big red truck with a siren. Guess who?

I love to read, and I help people find the books they need. Guess who?

Then I asked the kids to come up with their own riddles to share with a partner. I listened in on one:
I help take care of people's teeth. Guess who?

With great passion and enthusiasm, my little Sierra shouted, "The tooth fairy!!!"

Her confusion is understandable, I suppose. The tooth fairy has been an important topic of conversation among the children lately. This week alone, our class lost 5 teeth!
